SGH Team Members Win Award, Present Papers at ASCE Pipelines 2023
Several Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) team members participated in the Pipelines 2023 Conference, hosted by the Utility Engineering and Surveying Institute (UESI) of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). The event was held 12 to 16 August in San Antonio, Texas.
During the conference, SGH Principal Murat Engindeniz received the UESI Pipelines 2023 Best Paper Award for “Evaluation of Large Diameter Interconnection to an Existing 96-inch PCCP,” with his co-author Gregory Henry of Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam. The paper focuses on evaluating the risk of tapping an old, 96 in. diameter PCCP water line to connect it to a new pipeline without impacting service. The evaluation required finite element analyses, which Daniel Valentine of SGH performed. The award recognizes the best in technical excellence, innovation, communication, and impact at the conference.
