Steve Keppel Earns Board-Certified Geotechnical Engineer Designation
Steve Keppel, Senior Project Manager at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH), has earned the Board-Certified Geotechnical Engineer (BC.GE) designation from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Academy of Geo-Professionals and Civil Engineering Certification Inc. (CEC). The certification recognizes geotechnical engineers who have demonstrated advanced technical knowledge, professional experience, ethical practice, and a continued commitment to learning. For Steve, the achievement reflects years of work helping clients evaluate complex subsurface conditions, assess existing structures, and develop practical geotechnical solutions.
Steve has extensive geotechnical, civil, and geostructural engineering experience. He supports complex infrastructure, building, and construction projects, specializing in instrumentation and monitoring programs; forensic investigations; and assessing damaged or underperforming structures, earth retention systems, timber pile and other deep foundations, and below-grade facilities. Drawing on his diverse background, Steve helps clients identify the root causes of complex problems and develops practical solutions involving soil-structure interaction, excavation support systems, foundations, groundwater conditions, and construction impacts. His experience includes investigating and designing foundations and geostructures, and providing technical support for dispute resolution and litigation matters. He combines strong analytical skills with practical field experience to provide owners, designers, contractors, and legal counsel with expert analysis of damage causation, helping them manage risk and achieve successful project outcomes.
This recognition further strengthens SGH’s geotechnical engineering expertise and our ability to help clients solve complex subsurface challenges.
