The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) San Francisco Section recently honored Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) Project Consultant Pinn Winyoopongphun with the 2025 Outstanding Civil Engineer in Community Service Award. This award recognizes civil engineers who demonstrate exceptional dedication to improving their communities through leadership, volunteerism, and service beyond the workplace. Pinn accepted the award on 3 October at the ASCE San Francisco Section Annual Meeting & Awards Dinner, held at the San Francisco War Memorial.

Pinn is part of the Building Technology group in SGH’s San Francisco Bay Area office, where he assesses and designs building enclosure systems for new and existing structures. Within the engineering community, Pinn is a Board Member of ASCE’s San Francisco Section Younger Member Forum (YMF) and serves as Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (JEDI) Chair for the San Francisco YMF, helping to create space for underrepresented voices, mentorship, and advocacy within the profession.

He has also supported a range of local organizations and initiatives, including Oakland Elizabeth House, helping to provide household supplies and assist with community events for women and children in transitional housing; the Head for the Cure Foundation, serving as an event team captain for fundraising and awareness events supporting brain cancer research and patient care; and San Francisco Parks and Recreation, where he participates in volunteer efforts to maintain and improve local parks and green spaces.

“Pinn exemplifies what it means to lead with purpose, combining a strong technical skillset with a genuine passion for service,” said Craig Allender, SGH Principal and San Francisco Bay Area Building Technology Division Head. “His dedication to uplifting others, both within our profession and in the broader community, captures the best spirit of engineering.”
