Senior Principal

James C. Parker is a Senior Principal at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH).  James has extensive experience in both structural engineering and building enclosure structures. His work ranges from new structural design, to investigation and retrofit of existing buildings, and design of high-performance building facade structures.  With SGH since 1985, his exposure both to new construction design and to existing building investigation / evaluation enables Mr. Parker to bring creative solutions to the design process that reflect a realistic understanding of the performance of building and enclosure structures.

Mr. Parker has worked extensively performing seismic assessments of structures in areas of significant seismic risk worldwide.  He has worked to establish programs and priorities for seismic rehabilitation and risk mitigation, including development of building inventory and loss and vulnerability studies.  He has inspected facilities, performed seismic analysis, and developed designs of seismic retrofit for existing buildings.  He has worked extensively as a voting member of the Seismic Rehabilitation Committee for the American Society of Civil Engineers ASCE 41, which is the state of the art standard for seismic evaluation and rehabilitation.  He is currently on the steering committee for the ASCE 41 – 17 Update.

In addition, James is the author of the AISC Design Guide 22, Facade Attachments to Steel-Framed Buildings and has presented extensively on the subject.
