Mayfield Senior School Strub Hall
Scope/Solutions
Constructed in the late 1910s, Strub Hall is the main building at the Mayfield Senior School. The school wanted to modernize the building and undertook a project to upgrade the facility while preserving its original architecture. The work focused on reconfiguring 1,500 sq ft of existing space to create new classrooms, meeting rooms, and offices to better serve the school’s students and faculty, and updating building systems to improve performance. SGH consulted on modifications to the building enclosure assemblies.
The renovation project included replacing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems; implementing a voluntary seismic retrofit; improving the building’s accessibility and fire life safety; and repairing and replacing building enclosure assemblies to improve performance and extend the useful life of the building. SGH investigated the existing building enclosure’s condition and consulted on the design and detailing for remedial work that included:
- Investigating failed waterproofing and tiling
- Replacing windows and doors
- Repairing damaged facade materials, such as plaster and cast stone
- Installing waterproofing and new tile work at the back porch and third floor balcony
- Improving the gutter/drainage at the roof edge
We provided construction phase services, including reviewing contractor submittals, visiting the site to observe ongoing repairs and installation of the building enclosure assemblies, and helping the project team address field conditions.
