SEAOSC Names Molly Pobiel a Young Engineer of the Year

The Structural Engineers Association of Southern California (SEAOSC) recently honored Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) Project Consultant Molly Pobiel with a Young (Emerging) Engineer of the Year award. This award signifies a younger member in recognition of their outstanding contributions to SEAOSC, the engineering profession, and the community. Molly accepted the award earlier this month at this year’s Technical Summit & President’s Lunch.

Molly is part of the Structural Engineering division in SGH’s Los Angeles, CA, office. Their work focuses on seismic condition assessments and retrofits of structural systems, existing building renovation design, and performance-based structural fire design and heat transfer analysis in collaboration with SGH’s Fire Engineering division. They are the Co-Chair of SEAOSC’s Young Members Committee and active in SEAOSC’s Structural Engineering Engagement and Equity (SE3) Committee. As part of SGH’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Council, Molly spearheaded firmwide education on pronoun usage, contributing to SGH receiving the SEAOSC Excellence in Diversity & Inclusion Award in 2024. This award served as a testament to their commitment to promoting a diverse and inclusive environment.

“Molly is truly deserving of this honor. They have a rare blend of technical excellence in structural engineering and a deep commitment to advancing DEI efforts,” said Kevin O’Connell, Southern California Structural Engineering Division Head at SGH. “Whether they’re tackling complex engineering challenges, leading firmwide DEI efforts, or contributing to professional organizations, Molly approaches it all with energy, purpose, and heart, creating lasting and significant impact.”
