Under Armour Performance Center

Scope/Solutions

Commonly known as the Castle, the Under Armour Performance Center serves as a training and wellness complex for the Baltimore Ravens. SGH served as the building enclosure consultant for a project to renovate the existing facility and incorporate state-of-the art spaces designed to better meet the team’s programmatic needs. The renovation included enlarging the hydrotherapy suite and training room, upgrading meeting rooms, reconfiguring the traffic flow through the building, and adding spaces focused on health and nutrition. The design also helps bring in more natural light with a large skylight over the central pool and through an operable glass wall that connects the training room to the practice field.

The project schedule was coordinated with the Raven’s calendar to minimize disruption to their operations and be open before the 2025 season. SGH collaborated with project team throughout the design and construction phases. Highlights of our work include:

  • Reviewing the building enclosure design, including below-grade waterproofing, opaque exterior walls, curtain walls, interior pool waterproofing, interior air barriers for the hydrotherapy suite, skylights, roofing, and waterproofing tie-ins to the existing building
  • Consulting on complex details, such as assemblies used in the hydrotherapy suite that balance air, water, vapor, and thermal performance with occupant comfort in adjacent interior spaces that stayed occupied during construction
  • Helping select enclosure assemblies, including those used in high-humidity spaces, and providing recommendations to minimize condensation risk
  • Assisting with roofing details, including new skylight openings in existing roof areas
  • Consulting on new exterior wall assemblies used to infill openings in the existing brick‑clad walls
  • Assisting with the design of below-grade waterproofing at pool areas with fluctuating groundwater conditions
  • Providing construction phase services, including reviewing contractor submittals, visiting the site to observe installation of the enclosure assemblies, and helping the project team addressing field conditions
