Washington, DC
The Chastleton Cooperative Apartments
Scope/Solutions
The Chastleton, constructed in the 1920s, is located in Washington DC’s Dupont Circle neighborhood and listed on the DC Inventory of Historic Sites. The cooperative building houses around 300 residences and associated amenities. SGH provided building enclosure consulting services for the replacement of windows and balcony doors at this eight-story structure.
Working for the cooperative association, SGH collaborated with the window-replacement contractor during the replacement of windows and balcony doors. Highlights of our work on this project include the following:
- Performed water-penetration testing of representative window installations
- Conducted periodic site visits to compare the installation of doors and windows to the requirements of the contract documents
- Provided field reports with a record of construction progress and contractor action items
- Assisted the cooperative association with the evaluation of contractor payment applications

Lake Anne of Reston Condominiums, Heron House
In 2002, the condominium association replaced the original steel-framed windows with aluminum fixed-framed and casement windows and undertook concrete repairs at window surrounds. SGH investigated the cause of leakage at the fifteen-story, cast-in-place concrete structure.
