The City of Fort Worth wanted a new arena to host events ranging from major concerts to premier sports to the rodeos the area is famously known for, including the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo. The indoor venue can seat 14,000 fans and includes more than 200,000 sq ft of outdoor plaza space for festivals and other community activities. With art deco features, brick cladding, and a long-span domed roof, the building design highlights the style of Will Rogers Stadium, the former home to the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo. SGH provided building enclosure consulting services for the new area.
SGH assisted with the design of below-grade, plaza, and balcony deck waterproofing; exterior wall assemblies; windows and doors; expansion joint assemblies; and low-slope and dome roofing. Highlights of our work include:
- Collaborating with HKS to develop the design for the building enclosure and approaches for improving airtightness, watertightness, thermal performance, condensation resistance, and constructability
- Helping develop details to integrate the various enclosure systems and components
- Consulting on the design of exterior walls clad with brick, precast concrete panels, stone, metal panels, and curtain walls; performing hygrothermal analyses to determine the type and location of vapor retarders within the wall assembly; and participating in a on-site mockup
- Assisting with the design and detailing for the roofing, including low-slope roofing and the large dome roof with a polyvinyl chloride membrane, and the waterproofing, including the large plaza space around the arena and transitions at expansion joints
- Providing constructing phase services, including reviewing submittals, visiting the site to observe installation of the building enclosure assemblies, and helping address field conditions
