5670 Wilshire Boulevard

Scope/Solutions

The twenty-seven-story office building at 5670 Wilshire Boulevard was constructed in 1965. The building owner wanted to understand the condition of the building enclosure as they planned to undertake a repositioning project that included painting the exterior concrete sunscreen. SGH assessed the condition of the building’s facades and designed repairs for various building elements.

Our investigation included reviewing original drawings, performing visual surveys from the ground and suspended scaffolding, and collecting samples for testing.

We provided the owner with recommendations for re-aligning concrete sunscreen fins, repairing concrete cracks and spalls, and applying waterproofing coatings to the sunscreen and exposed cantilevered floor slabs.

SGH designed repairs, performed building modeling via drone, and prepared construction documents for the repair work. We provided construction administration services, including regularly visiting the site to observe the ongoing work and helping the contractor address unforeseen conditions.
