SEAOI Honors Eric Fleet with Excellence in Engagement Award
The Structural Engineers Association of Illinois (SEAOI) selected Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) Consulting Engineer Eric Fleet as the recipient of its annual Excellence in Engagement Award. The award recognizes individuals who strive to improve the engagement of current and future structural engineers and advance the profession through mentorship, professional development, and community involvement. Eric accepted the award during the SEAOI Awards Celebration on 4 June 2026 in Chicago, IL.
Eric is deeply committed to supporting and connecting the structural engineering community, with a focus on creating opportunities for emerging professionals. He is an active member of SEAOI and serves as the Community Outreach Chair for the Young Engineers Committee (YEC). In this role, Eric has led several annual initiatives, including the Toys for Tots Holiday Toy Drive and National Rebuilding Day with Rebuilding Together Metro Chicago. He also mentors the next generation of engineers through volunteer work at the DiscoverE Future City regional competition and the Chicago Architecture Center’s Annual Engineering Fest.
At SGH, Eric has contributed to a diverse portfolio of projects, including structural rehabilitation, construction litigation support, and seismic analysis of nuclear and marine infrastructure. He has worked on several commercial tenant improvement projects, one of which received the Chicago Building Congress Merit Award for Interior Fit-Out Projects in 2024. He has also been an active member of SGH’s SE2050 working group since 2021. In 2025, Eric received the NCSEA Young Member Summit Scholarship and participated in the organization’s annual Leadership Summit.
