ACI Honors SGH Technical Experts Brett Holland, Kevin Conroy, and Matthew Sherman

The American Concrete Institute (ACI) Board of Direction has elevated Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) Associate Principals Kevin Conroy and Brett Holland to ACI Fellows within the organization. This prestigious honor recognizes ACI members who have made “outstanding contributions to the production or use of concrete materials, products, and structures in the areas of education, research, development, design, construction, or management.” Additionally, SGH Senior Principal Matthew Sherman was named Vice President of ACI’s Executive Committee, continuing the firm’s strong legacy of leadership within the organization. ACI presented the honors at the Concrete Convention in Toronto, Canada, from 30 March to 2 April 2025.
Kevin Conroy
Kevin was named an ACI Fellow in recognition of his contributions to evaluating and repairing concrete structures. He leads major investigations and rehabilitation projects, applying specialized knowledge of building enclosure systems and deteriorated concrete to improve building performance and safety.
Kevin serves on multiple ACI committees, including ACI 562 on Evaluation, Repair, and Rehabilitation of Concrete Buildings and its General and Design Subcommittees. He is also a member of ACI 546 on Repair of Concrete, ACI 364 on Rehabilitation, and serves as Chair of ACI 117 on Tolerances. Beyond ACI, Kevin is an active member of the American Institute of Steel Construction, International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI), and Structural Engineers Association of Illinois (SEAOI).
Brett Holland
ACI recognized Brett for his expertise in developing and implementing concrete for high-performance applications and specialized durability requirements. Brett applies his concrete expertise while working on historic stadiums, mechanically stabilized earth walls, precast concrete, concrete overlays, bridges, and port structures.
Brett is active in several ACI technical committees, serving as Chair of ACI Committee 363 on High Strength Concrete, and as a member of Committees 201 on Durability of Concrete, 236 on Material Science of Concrete, and Subcommittee 318-A on Structural Concrete Building Code. He also serves as President of the ACI New England Chapter. In addition to his ACI involvement, Brett is a member of the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) and the American Shotcrete Association (ASA).
Matthew Sherman
Matthew was appointed ACI’s Vice President for two years, continuing his long-standing leadership and technical contributions to the organization, which have included strategic and financial planning, transition support, and committee activities. He is recognized across the industry for his expertise in field investigations, repair design, and material evaluation, and has led significant efforts in assessing and repairing concrete structures and evaluating material durability.
Matthew is an ACI Fellow and has served on ACI’s Board of Direction; Membership Committee; and Committee 349 on Design of Nuclear Structures, 201 on Durability of Concrete, and 228 on Nondestructive Testing. He is also an ICRI Fellow, where he serves as Chair of the Technical Activities Committee and is a member of 210 on Evaluation and 510 on Corrosion (past Chair).
