Architects and engineers are frequently required to address deterioration and damage in existing steel buildings. Steel construction has proven to be a very durable and reliable building material when properly maintained. However, if not properly cared for, or if subjected to loads greater than what they were originally designed to support, steel elements can deteriorate or fail, requiring repair or retrofitting. In this webinar, we will review the common types of damage in steel construction and discuss strategies for restoring and repairing damaged steel elements.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After attending this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Understand the most common types of damage seen in existing steel buildings.
- Identify the common causes of steel damage and deterioration.
- Understand the steps in assessing the severity of damage in existing steel structures.
- Discuss appropriate repair strategies for structural steel elements
