Two-part series on  Part One, titled “Winterization 101:  The Science of Frozen Pipes,” provides a basic overview of why pipes freeze and break, and what can be done to prevent this from happening.  The article also discusses the advantages and disadvantages of common pipe materials.  Part Two, titled “Three Frozen Pipe Scenarios and What Went Wrong in Each,” presents three cases of burst pipes, and how they could have been prevented.
