What Does It Mean to Be a Mentor?
Construction Executive magazine recently published an article on the importance of having strong mentors and mentoring programs for the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry. In “How Mentoring Can Help Students Discover the Benefits of a Career in Construction,” my colleague Alejandro Miranda of Boylston Properties and I share how programs like the ACE Mentor Program of Greater Boston help students foster a love for what we do while forming relationships and learning important skills.
“What does it mean to be a mentor?,” the article starts. “It means you have the opportunity to share your knowledge and experience with someone who could highly benefit from what you’ve learned over the years. It means you have a very important task to help guide someone who is in your shoes from several years ago, and you get to share your experiences, wisdom, insights, wins, and losses with someone who is interested and excited in following in your footsteps. They’ll hang on every word you say, so there is a great responsibility that comes with being a mentor, especially when it pertains to the construction industry and the many intricate facets of it.”
