Our team members work across several multidisciplinary areas.
Building Technology
Our BT teams help clients solve complex challenges involving building enclosure systems. From high-performance facades and roofing to historic preservation, waterproofing, plazas, and rehabilitation, we help clients improve the performance, resilience, and service life of their buildings.
Structural Engineering
Our SE teams help clients design, investigate, repair, and preserve buildings, infrastructure, and waterfront facilities. Through structural, civil, and geotechnical engineering, we solve complex challenges and develop performance-based design decisions for foundations, site development, transportation systems, drainage, marine structures, and construction.
Engineering Mechanics & Infrastructure
Our EMI teams apply advanced engineering analysis to solve complex challenges involving critical infrastructure, specialty structures, and high-consequence facilities. Specialty areas include the nuclear and science and defense industries, buried infrastructure like pipes and tanks, and fire life safety consulting.
Applied Science & Research
Our AS&R team members develop and execute comprehensive testing and research plans in our in-house laboratory to better understand how materials, components, and systems behave.
Business Operations
Our operations professionals bring expertise across several critical business functions, including administration, finance, human resources, information technology, legal, marketing, and talent development.

You will most likely experience many different types of assignments at SGH. Most co-ops gain a variety of experience both in the office and in the field. Tasks vary from office work, such as drafting assignments, litigation support, designing structural members, and structural analysis, to field work such as construction monitoring and investigations.
The chances of being offered a full-time position upon graduation depend on what areas of SGH interest you. Certain departments require graduate degrees for entry-level staff. And of course all of this is predicated on the quality of effort and work that you demonstrate as a co-op/intern. SGH believes in the co-op/intern program as a feeder system for staff.
Most co-ops/interns spend a portion of their time in the field. This varies depending on what type of projects are in the office. Some co-ops spend up to 75% of their time at SGH in the field while others are only exposed to a few field assignments.
We look for students with a combination of technical and interpersonal skills who thrive while working in a diverse and fast-paced environment. Our ideal students have the aptitude, attitude, skills, and initiative to work collaboratively as a member and/or leader of a team. Commonly, we look for college students who have already completed their second year at an accredited college or university.
