Abstract: Reconstructing a plaza deck is often expensive because it involves removing and replacing such overburden elements as paving, plants, soils, and other landscaping features. Access to the plaza for reconstruction work can be difficult because of its location, and the use of construction equipment on the deck may be limited because of access or structural capacity. Furthermore, plaza deck reconstruction may interfere with building operations. With all the potential difficulties in plaza deck work, the condition of existing plaza decks and their waterproofing systems must be carefully evaluated to determine whether repair or replacement is appropriate and to collect information needed to design repairs or a new plaza system.
