Opus One Winery
Scope/Solutions
Located in California’s Napa Valley, Opus One Winery is a renowned producer of Bordeaux-style red blend wines. SGH has worked with Opus One, Johnson Fain Architects, and Wright Contracting on a variety of projects at the winery. Most recently, SGH served as the waterproofing designer of record for replacing and renovating the tasting terrace, the main courtyard, and the berm living roof areas, and consulted on an expansion project to add new barrel rooms, cuvee rooms, equipment storage, office space, conference rooms, and private tasting rooms.
As the designer of record for the waterproofing at the arrival court, main courtyard, sloped berms, and berm basement walls, SGH’s work included:
- Investigating leaks potentially associated with the existing waterproofing in these areas and transitions to adjacent systems, such as limestone cladding, to plan for the renovation
- Developing constructing drawings and specifications for the work
- Collaborating with the landscape architect and design architect to develop waterproofing details that incorporated energy code requirements; coordinated with landscaping drainage and architectural elements, such as lamp post attachments and walkways; and integrated with other existing waterproofing assemblies
- Working with the waterproofing manufacturer to define the systems, details, and construction coordination items
- Providing construction phase services, including reviewing submittals, visiting the site to observe repair work, answering contractor questions and requests for information, performing field testing of installed systems, and helping address field conditions uncovered during construction
