Philadelphia PA
Jessup House, 12th and Sansom
Scope/Solutions
Located at 12th and Sansom Streets in Philadelphia’s Washington Square West neighborhood, Jessup House is a twenty-story, mixed-use, multifamily development. Housing almost 400 residential units, the tower is constructed on a multistory podium with below-grade parking and ground-level commercial space. The gray brick-clad podium helps bring the high-rise development down to street scale by providing some visual separation from the tower primarily clad with unitized window wall assemblies and copper-colored metal panels. SGH consulted on the building enclosure design developed by Perkins Eastman and provided engineering support during construction.
SGH assisted with the design of the building enclosure, including below- and above-grade waterproofing, metal panel cladding, storefront fenestration, window walls, and roofing. Highlights of our work include:
- Reviewing the proposed design, focusing on efficiency, constructability, and performance
- Helping select and develop details for the various building enclosure assemblies
- Consulting on complex conditions, including transitions between the below-grade waterproofing and the rising wall’s air/water barrier, heated plenum spaces, and
parapet assemblies - Performing hygrothermal modeling to assess condensation potential at split‑insulation exterior walls
- Consulting on waterproofing for outdoor amenity spaces, such as the third-floor terrace with a swimming pool and open-air kitchens, a rooftop deck, and private balconies
- Providing construction phase services, including reviewing submittals, visiting the site to observe ongoing construction, witnessing performance testing of various
fenestration assemblies and helping address field conditions
