1600 Vine at Hollywood and Vine
Scope/Solutions
The 1600 Vine building shares a city block with the W Hotel and Residences at the famous intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The mixed-use complex houses 375 apartments units and offers 32,600 sq ft of retail space in three twelve-story towers and one eight-story tower. The property features below-grade parking, plaza lounges, a sixth-floor pool and spa, rooftop terraces, and private balconies. SGH assisted HKS, Inc. with the design and construction monitoring of the building enclosure.
SGH consulted on the building enclosure design, including below-grade waterproofing, plaza deck and balcony waterproofing, exterior wall systems, roofing, windows, and doors. Highlights of our work include the following:
- Helped select roofing and waterproofing systems for all building enclosure components
- Determined design performance criteria for systems and components
- Reviewed drawings and provided recommendations to improve performance and constructability
- Developed details to integrate the various enclosure systems
- Worked with the architect and general contractor to analyze cost and design alternate building enclosure systems as needed to meet cost and performance objectives
- Reviewed building enclosure submittals to compare with the design intent
- Observed construction and laboratory testing of a performance mockup to resolve detailing of complex intersections and transitions between various components and systems
- Observed ongoing construction to verify general compliance with the project documents
- Developed details to address as-built conditions
