Tufts University Honors Paul Kelley with Distinguished Service Award
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Tufts University recently recognized Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) Senior Principal Paul Kelley with a 2022 Distinguished Service Award. The department gives this award annually to recognize alumni and CEE community members who exemplify service and carry on the department’s name with excellence. Paul received the honor at an Alumni Dinner on 7 May 2022.
Paul is a Tufts University alumni, having received an M.S. in Structural Engineering and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the school. He received the Outstanding Career Achievement Award from the Tufts University School of Engineering in 2015 and has contributed to both the school and the engineering profession throughout his career. He has lectured at the university and authored numerous papers that share his extensive knowledge with all members of the profession.
“I have worked with Paul for nearly twenty years and have seen first-hand the level of passion and expertise he brings to his practice,” said Aaron Lewis, SGH Senior Principal and Structural Engineering Region Head. “I am glad to see Tufts University recognize Paul’s impact on the profession and future engineers.”
Paul’s practice includes a diverse array of structural engineering applications, including providing design consultation on both new structures and repairs and modifications of existing structures. In his more than forty-year career, Paul has become known as an expert in investigating building conditions, including performance, failure analysis, and constructability. He has authored numerous papers and given presentations for industry groups throughout his career. Paul assists in the resolution of many construction-related disputes by presenting expert opinions in mediations, depositions, arbitrations, and trials.
While at SGH, he has served as both the Structural Engineering Division Head of SGH’s Waltham, MA, office and the Structural Engineering Region Head for SGH’s East Coast Operations.
