SEI to Honor Mark Webster and Glenn Bell with Prestigious Awards at Structures Congress
The American Society of Civil Engineers’ (ASCE) Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) will recognize current and former Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) structural engineering leaders with awards honoring excellence in sustainability and professional collaboration. The awards will be formally presented during Structures Congress 2026 in Boston, MA, from 29 April to 1 May.
Mark Webster: Dennis L. Tewksbury Award
Senior Consulting Engineer Mark Webster will receive the Dennis L. Tewksbury Award for pioneering sustainable structural design and advancing embodied carbon awareness within the structural engineering profession.
Mark has extensive experience designing, analyzing, and investigating concrete, steel, masonry, and wood structures and is a nationally recognized expert in sustainable structural design. He is a founding member of SEI’s Sustainability Committee and played an instrumental role in developing and adopting SEI’s SE 2050 Commitment Program, helping shape how structural engineers address embodied carbon across the industry.
“I’m grateful that my sustainability work has been an inspiration to others,” said Mark. “Together, we are challenging and changing the practice of structural engineering to address climate change and other environmental threats to our societal well-being and our ecological support system.”
Glenn Bell: James A. Rossberg Award for Collaboration
SGH alumnus Glenn Bell, the firm’s former Chief Executive Officer, will receive the James A. Rossberg Award for Collaboration for strengthening global collaboration and expanding the exchange of best practices within the structural engineering community.
Glenn is widely recognized for his decades-long leadership in forensic engineering, building safety, and professional service. He currently serves as a Research Civil Engineer at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), where he is Associate Lead of the National Construction Safety Team investigating the partial collapse of the Champlain Towers South in Surfside, FL. He previously served as President of SEI and spent forty-five years at SGH, including serving as CEO from 1995 to 2016.
