SGH Technical Experts to Present at ASCE-COPRI Ports ‘25 Conference

Several Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) team members will lead efforts and present during the proceedings at the PORTS ’25 conference hosted by the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Coasts, Oceans, Ports, and Rivers Institute (ASCE-COPRI). Held 1-4 June in Providence, RI, the event will convene a global audience of professionals focused on ports, harbors, waterways, and other marine topics to share best practices and discuss new advancements in the field.
Short Courses
SGH team members will lead two short courses on 1 June:
- In “Vessel Mooring and Berthing,” SGH’s Rune Iversen and William Bruin will join GZA GeoEnvironmental’s Cheryl Coviello in a full-day course introducing how to determine requirements and design loads from mooring and berthing for marine structures such as piers, wharves, dolphins, and other port and harbor structures.
- In “Seismic Design of Piers and Wharves,” SGH’s Julie Galbraith and GHD’s Marc Percher will teach a half-day course addressing major topics in seismic design in general, as well as analysis and detailing of marine structures in particular.
Technical Program
SGH professionals will moderate the following sessions over the course of the conference:
- 3G: Ports 101 – Inspection of Port Structures, led by Samuel Cortes on 2 June
- 4B: Port Engineering, led by Maximo Argo on 3 June
- 6A: Port Engineering, led by William Bruin on 3 June
- 7A: Port Engineering, led by Brian Phan on 3 June
- 9B: Port Engineering, led by Rune Iversen on 4 June
- 9E: The New ASCE 61-25: Standard for Seismic Design of Piers and Wharves, led by Gayle Johnson on 4 June
Our team members authored and will present several papers:
