Alloy Selection: What Metals Should I Use for My Building?

A wide variety of metal alloys are used in building construction, from low-carbon steel for structural beams, to heat-treated and high-carbon steel fasteners, to aluminum and copper alloys for cladding. In this webinar, we will introduce the basic alloy systems of different metals and discuss how alloy selection is conducted, considering cost, performance, and sustainability. We will share several project examples and explore the pitfalls that can occur if the wrong material is chosen.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After attending this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Recognize the different classes of metal alloys.
- Discuss the pros and cons of different metals in construction applications.
- Understand the basic steps of alloy selection.
- Be aware of the pitfalls that can occur if shortcuts are taken.
Participants will earn 1 AIA CES Learning Unit (LU/HSW) for attending the webinar. Registration is free. Please note that space is limited – email events@sgh.com to join our waitlist if the session is closed when you register.
