Why Leadership and Relationships Matter in AEC

I recently sat down with Fiona Johann on the Engineering Management Institute’s (EMI) AEC Leadership Podcast to discuss how client relationships continue to evolve and reshape the industry. We talked about why communication, trust, and strong leadership are just as important as technical expertise—and how those skills can help teams navigate difficult moments, delegate more effectively, and stay focused on what matters most.
We also discussed SGH’s Applied Science & Research Center and how its work supports complex problem solving by helping teams get to the “why” behind a challenge.
Lastly, I shared how a range of mentors has shaped my career and why building a panel of mentors can support growth in different ways over time.
