SGH staff member Brandon Buchberg, P.E., held both undergraduate and graduate degrees from Georgia Tech. In November 2013, Brandon unexpectedly passed away and SGH established this scholarship and internship opportunity in his memory. Brandon was a strong Engineer, but his depth of character and breadth of activities are what truly set him apart.
The deadline for applications is 15 March 2019.
About the Buchberg Scholar Award
SGH established this award to encourage students in the pursuit of civil engineering to look beyond their studies and recognize the other characteristics that make a well-rounded individual, such as making a positive impact in the community and the lives of others, as well as participating in extracurricular activities.
The award includes both a financial component and a paid internship at SGH’s Boston Office during a semester or summer of the recipient’s choice.
Advice for Applications
The scholarship criteria emphasizes more than the recipient’s academic performance. Students interested in applying should make sure to convey how they make a positive impact on others, both in their video introduction and their personal essay.
Letters of recommendation should focus on the student’s engagements beyond the classroom and their positive impact on the community.
