By combining an understanding of structural behavior and analytical tools, knowledge of design standards, and meaningful onsite experience during construction and investigations, Mike Mudlock provides practical solutions to complex structural problems. He has investigated, analyzed, and designed various types of structures, including serving as a project manager for many nuclear design and investigation projects. His work has included structural design; evaluation of structures affected by alkali-silica reactivity; seismic soil-structure interaction analysis; onsite engineering support of new high-hazard concrete and steel structures; and evaluation and upgrade of reinforced concrete, concrete masonry, structural steel, wood-framed, and pre-engineered metal building structures, systems, and components. He actively serves as a leader on two Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) committees related to mitigation of disproportionate collapse potential – which are producing a new standard and technical guidance document – and on an American Nuclear Society (ANS) working group producing a new standard related to life extension of non-reactor nuclear facilities.
