Benjamin Schafer returns to SGH to share his expertise as a leading expert on the use of cold-formed steel while also serving as a professor in John Hopkins University's Department of Civil Engineering. During his many years as a professor, he has also been active in consulting – providing support and training for engineering and development teams working with steel structures – as well as with peer reviews and expert testimony in failures. He has led numerous research projects on the behavior and design of cold-formed steel; serves as director of the Cold-Formed Steel Research Consortium; and is an active member of the American Institute of Steel Construction, American Iron and Steel Institute, and Structural Stability Research Council, among others. Benjamin is an award-winning teacher and lectures on the tenets of structural art, and also serves as a facilitator for a middle school math and maker program. He worked as a Senior Engineer at SGH earlier in his career.
