Prince George’s County Public Schools undertook a multiphase project at Suitland High School to replace its outdated facilities. The new building will house the Comprehensive High School and the Center for Visual and Performing Arts and have capacity for more than 2,000 students. SGH provided building enclosure consulting and commissioning (BECx) services for the project.
SGH consulted on the design and provided commissioning services for the building enclosure, including low-slope membrane roofing, opaque wall assemblies, curtain walls and storefront, and below-grade waterproofing. Highlight of our work include:
- Reviewing the building enclosure design and BECx plan and specifications
- Recommending ways to improve airtightness, watertightness, thermal performance, condensation resistance, and constructability
- Helping evaluate and select the building enclosure systems
- Performing BECx services to help verify the installation and performance meet the project requirements established in the BECx plan and specifications
- Witnessing performance testing of the curtain walls, storefront, low-slope roofs, and expansion joints
- Providing construction phase services, including reviewing submittals, visiting the site to observe installation of the enclosure systems to compare with the design intent and the BECx requirements, and helping the contractor address field conditions

One of the university's busiest libraries, Clemons Library is a three-story building with a multi-level terrace housing educational, collaborative, and support spaces. SGH investigated the cause of repeated water intrusion and other moisture-related issues at the libraries and designed repairs.
