During design development, SGH consulted on the concrete repair design proposed by others to extend the useful life of the existing tank for inclusion in the Blacktip Reef exhibit. As part of our work, we reviewed drawings for concrete repair, concrete protection, and corrosion mitigation. SGH provided advice to address deterioration caused by corrosion of embedded steel and methods to help the design team solicit useful cost estimates.
We assisted the design team during the construction phase by reviewing waterproofing and coating shop drawings and monitoring tank waterproofing installation. SGH provided recommendations for materials and detailing waterproofing to accommodate tank geometry and penetrations. Our construction phase services included conducted periodic site visits to compare as-installed waterproofing to the design intent, observed tank watertightness testing, and assisted with the resolution of unforeseen conditions.
SGH also consulted on the building enclosure for the following projects:
- Consulted on sloped roofing at the Pier 4 Dolphin Discovery exhibit
- Performed a condition assessment of the Tropical Rain Forest exhibit curtain wall and sloped glazing (roofing) systems and the Harbor Overlook sloped glazing (roofing) system to evaluate if existing framing could be retained as part of a planned glazing replacement project
- Investigated and designed repairs to address leakage through the Australia exhibit sloped glazing (roofing) system
