During the spring of 2013, SGH investigated two hard tugboat allisions (collisions with fixed objects such as bridges or docks), at separate marine oil terminals. In both cases, the tugs were maneuvering their respective barges when they impacted the marine structures. Our work included rapid response to the sites and visual surveys of the impacted areas to assess structural and operational condition. In both incidents, SGH concluded that berthing activities could continue outside of the damaged areas and that repairs to the damaged areas would be necessary. SGH's rapid response and documentation of the damage allowed the clients to immediately report the incident and operational condition of the terminal to state regulators, minimizing terminal downtime.
