SGH reviewed the design for the structural glass skylight that is tetrahedral in shape and incorporates triangular glass fins and laminated glass panels. We helped the glass designer and supplier resolve an issue related to the potential movement of the glass support.
As a result of our review, SGH recommended several changes to support conditions to reduce stress concentrations in the glass. Highlights of our work include the following:
- Performed finite element analyses on the skylight to determine localized stresses due to a combination of loads
- Analyzed the effect of differential support displacement
- Evaluated the effect of glass deformations on the silicone sealant
