also published in RCI Interface, March 2011|Abstract: This presentation will discuss failures and other problems encountered during forensic investigations of ailing curtain wall systems, with primary focus on glass and metal (aluminum) curtainwall systems. Failures include air and water leakage, glass breakage, loss of (falling) metal components, fogging glass, and other serious deterioration. The authors will explain the reasons for the failures and explain how to avoid such problems.|We will also summarize a few recent successful curtain wall installation projects and some of the key design, preconstruction, and construction procedures that led to the successes and some critical tasks that are often overlooked.
