Built in the late 1980s, the Gampel Pavilion is an icon of the University of Connecticut (UConn) campus and their legendary basketball program. The geodesic dome roof, supported on a reinforced concrete plinth, acts as the building enclosure, structure, and interior finishes. Housed within the building are the basketball court, seating bowl, and ancillary service areas. UConn wanted to explore options to access the fabric ceiling of the panels and replace the frayed and deteriorated fabric. SGH assisted in analyzing the structure to set parameters related to floor loading capacities, rigging equipment access, and operation of the facility.
