University of California, Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive
The University of California needed to seismically retrofit the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, but determined it would negatively affect exhibit space. Needing a new home for the museum, the university chose a downtown Berkeley site. Diller Scofidio + Renfro’s (DS+R’s) design combines an existing 48,000 sq ft Art Deco building, previously housing the campus printing plant, with a new 35,000 sq ft addition. SGH consulted on the building enclosure for the addition and peer reviewed the structural design for the project.
