Broadway Parking Garage

Walnut Creek, CA

The garage is a 150,000 square foot, five-level structure, with parking capacity for 450 cars, is composed of sloping post-tensioned concrete slabs and girders. Based on previous seismic evaluations by SGH and others, the City of Walnut Creek required seismic strengthening for the parking garage. The City also wanted to improve the handicap accessibility, lighting, and general interior appearance. Because the garage is essential to downtown retail business, the project needed to be completed prior to the holidays. SGH designed seismic strengthening that included reinforced concrete shear walls, adding collectors to new shear walls, foundation system including rock anchors, and secondary supports for all main girders and beams.
