Ashford Perimeter Center Garage

Atlanta, GA

The Ashford Perimeter Center Garage is a four-level 700-car concrete parking structure built in 1985 with post-tensioned, flat slabs supported on concrete columns. SGH performed a prepurchase survey of the garage structure followed by a complete condition assessment after purchase, including nondestructive testing and probing. Later, as part of an overall remediation program, SGH load-tested the structural slabs to determine the condition of the parking decks, to analyze existing slab strengthening, and to develop recommendations and contract documents for remedial work to extend the useful life of the decks. Structural and waterproofing repairs of the garage included supplemental strengthening of the slabs using carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheets to replace eight debonded gunite beams. In high overstress areas, where CFRP could not be used due to fire-resistance issues, SGH used supplemental steel strengthening.
