Brooklyn Bridge
Brooklyn, NY
The New York City Department of Transportation rehabilitated the Brooklyn Bridge for its centennial. The project scope included repair and reinforcement of bridge floor truss members, replacement of suspender cables, inspection and rewrapping of the four main suspension cables, installation of new cable spreader frames, rehabilitation of the approach structures, and installation of new latex-modified concrete overlays. SGH was a consultant to the contracting firm that performed the work. We advised the contractor on procedures for this work, which was performed with the bridge in service. SGH designed sixteen catwalks suspended below the main suspension cables, which were used during the suspender cable replacement and the main suspension cable rewrapping. SGH consulted on structural problems during truss member rehabilitation and on overlay placement problems.
