Integrated Waste Treatment Unit (IWTU), Idaho National Laboratory (INL)

Idaho

The IWTU processes liquid waste and encapsulates the waste into a solid for off-site disposal. The facility consists of a central concrete high-hazard structure within a steel frame structure which houses the off-gas, mechanical, and control areas and supports a 40-ton maintenance crane and a transfer bell crane. SGH performed structural and seismic analysis and design for this high-hazard concrete facility in accordance with DOE-STD-1020 for PC-3 requirements and SGH's approved NQA 1 program. We reviewed geotechnical studies and performed seismic soil structure interaction and thermal analyses for elevated operating temperature. We prepared design drawings and modified the project concrete and steel specifications to meet nuclear codes and standards.

SGH provided licensing support and responded to multiple third party reviewers including the Defense Nuclear Facility Safety Board (DNFSB) Members.
