Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Expands Specialty Structures Expertise with New Hire

Holger Schulze Ehring, Dipl.-Ing., international expert on specialty structures, widens SGH's structural engineering services with high-level building expertise.

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Dec. 7, 2011 - Holger Schulze Ehring recently joined national engineering firm Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc. (SGH) as a Vice President and Senior Project Manager to broaden SGH's substantive structural design capability with his exceptional expertise in the design of specialized structures. SGH sees the design of specialty structures as an area with very high potential for growth in the next few years. In his role at SGH, Mr. Schulze Ehring will focus on collaborating with architects, developers, and contractors to design specialized and complex structures, including museums, transportation hubs, and bridges, as well as structural glazing, sculptures, architecturally featured staircases, canopies, cable structures, and movable structures.

Mr. Schulze Ehring previously worked for Santiago Calatrava LLC ( at its headquarters in Zurich as a Lead Project Engineer for internationally recognized iconic projects across the U.S., Europe, South America, and worldwide. In his work, he has seamlessly and elegantly blended structural engineering with architects' design intents to produce many stunning, award-winning projects, including the World Trade Center (WTC) Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) Transportation Hub, Denver International Airport extension, Museu do Amanhã, and the Salerno Marina d'Arechi & Bridge. Prior to his tenure at Calatrava, he worked for Ramboll UK Limited/Whitbybird ( in London and the Institute for Steel Construction in Aachen, Germany (

Mr. Schulze Ehring is member of the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE) and is a chartered member of the German Engineering Chamber. He has a master's degree equivalent in structural engineering and a bachelor's degree equivalent in architecture, both from RWTH Aachen University, Germany.
