SGH Named a “Best Firm to Work For"

WALTHAM, Mass. – Oct. 7, 2008 – Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc. (SGH) has been named a “2008 Best Firm to Work For” by Structural Engineer and CE News magazines for the fourth consecutive year. As revealed last month at the “2008 Best Firms Summit” held by ZweigWhite in San Francisco, SGH is ranked 2nd best firm to work for among large structural engineering firms in the U.S. and 9th among all structural firms in the country. SGH is also ranked 3rd best firm to work for among mid-sized civil engineering firms and 12th among all civil firms.

“We are pleased that our workplace development efforts continue to be recognized nationally,” said Glenn Bell, CEO of SGH. “Our firm’s success over the last 50 years is a direct reflection of the long-term careers our employees establish here.”

Inaugurated in 2003 and 2000 respectively, the Structural Engineer and CE News annual rankings identify the top engineering firms across the country that provide the best workplaces. The evaluations address issues including firm culture and values, quality of leadership, compensation and benefits, recognition programs, social atmosphere, and professional growth opportunities. The rankings are made up of two key components—a corporate survey through which firms report their employment practices and statistics, and a confidential employee survey administered by a third party.

“We participate in these annual evaluations to benchmark our performance alongside other accomplished firms in the industry,” said Julianne Nevins, Director of Human Resources at SGH. “The survey results foster valuable internal dialogue about what makes SGH a great place to work and how we can continue to create a rewarding environment that attracts and retains the brightest professionals in the industry.”
