SIMPSON GUMPERTZ & HEGER INTRODUCES FIRE SAFETY ENGINEERING CAPABILITY
Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc. (SGH) added a new fire safety engineering capability to its service portfolio with the addition of Jonathan Barnett, Ph.D. to the SGH team.SGH's fire safety engineering capability builds on many of the firm's current structural and building enclosure capabilities, such as analyzing the response of structures to high temperatures and computational fluid dynamic modeling of heat and air flow. Fire safety engineering addresses projects that require:
Analyzing the response of structures to fire;
Modeling fire and smoke spread and special compartmentalization, principally with computational fluid dynamics;
Modeling egress issues in fire;
Developing performance-based design solutions for fire conditions; and/or
Studying the fire performance of new or unusual materials.
Dr. Barnett is one of the nation’s top authorities on fire safety and has written and lectured extensively on the topic. Additionally, he is active in numerous industry associations including the Society of Fire Protection Engineers; the Society of Fire Safety, Australia; ASTM Committee E-5, Fire Standards; and the National Fire Protection Association. Previously, Dr. Barnett was a Professor of Fire Protection Engineering at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
