Glenn Bell, CEO of Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc. (SGH) will lead the plenary session at the 2007 Structures Congress, sponsored by the Structural Engineering Institute. In his presentation, "Engineering-Driven Architecture," Bell will note that current developments in technology, economics, resources, and culture are presenting challenges and opportunities in the new design and construction of buildings, which will require architects and engineers to work together in ways that are different from the past. Bell believes developments in engineering technology will influence architectural design to a much greater degree than in the past. In addition, Bell will identify the challenges to engineering-driven architecture and steps the engineering industry can take to overcome them.

Bell brings more than 30 years experience to the Structures Congress. During his tenure as CEO, SGH's growth tripled from two offices with $14 million in annual revenue to five offices and more than $65 million in revenue. In previous roles, also at SGH, Bell was responsible for major engineering works involving complex progressive engineering for design and investigation of structures and building envelopes. He has lectured frequently and published extensively on several topics related to structural engineering, design, and investigation.
