SIMPSON GUMPERTZ & HEGER EXPANDS ITS PRESERVATION TECHNOLOGY SERVICES WITH NEW HIRE

Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Inc. (SGH) announced today the addition of John Fidler, RIBA, to its Preservation Technology practice area. In this role, he will help to lead preservation projects nationwide from the firm's Los Angeles, CA office.

Fidler's experience includes the conservation of numerous government-owned ancient monuments such as World Heritage Sites at Hadrian's Wall and Stonehenge; grant-aided technical assessments and repair specifications for hundreds of Listed Buildings in the United Kingdom; and repairs to the City of London's Mansion House and Guildhall, Winchester Cathedral, and numerous medieval churches. In North America, Fidler has consulted on many preservation projects in Washington DC, Colonial Williamsburg, and Mesa Verde National Park, CO.

"John's knowledge and approach to historic preservation make him a natural fit with our team," said Glenn R. Bell, CEO of SGH. "His hire adds to our strong building rehabilitation efforts and our clients will significantly benefit from his depth of experience."

In addition to his new position at SGH, Fidler will continue his role as Vice President of the managing council of ICCROM, also known as the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property. In addition, he participates on the advisory committee for the Getty Foundation"s conservation grants program and just completed a program of research as a Guest Scholar of the Getty Conservation Institute in Los Angeles.

Fidler is a member of both the Royal Institute of British Architects and the Institute of Historic Building Conservation. He has chaired British Standards committees on preservation subjects. He is a Fellow of the Association of Preservation Technology International, the Society of Antiquaries, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and the International Institute for Conservation. Formerly based in the United Kingdom, Fidler retired from his post as the Conservation Director of English Heritage in London last summer after more than 30 years of work in the public and private sectors.
