"Hot Smoke Testing: A realistic means of testing smoke control systems," by Jonathan R. Barnett, The Construction Specifier, June 2010
For 20 years, engineers have used computer fire modeling to design complex smoke control systems. These simulations predict smoke's production and spreading based on user-developed design fire parameters. While this type of modeling facilitates system design, it is less useful for commissioning. This is where Hot Smoke Tests (HST) come in.
