Hultman Aqueduct
Massachusetts
The Hultman Aqueduct is a 1.8 mile long, 138-inch diameter and 150-inch diameter pipeline and the sole means of conveying fresh water to the towns and cities in the greater Boston area. SGH performed a comprehensive risk analysis, identified risks of pipeline failure, and developed repair designs to ensure the pipeline functioned reliably. The study used multiple technologies to evaluate the aqueduct's performance under combined external loads and internal pressures and when subjected to seismic loadings, including nondestructive testing, corrosion studies, geotechnical studies, finite element model analysis, a condition assessment, and probabilistic risk analysis.
