Mühleberg Nuclear Power Plant

Mühleberg, Switzerland

The Mühleberg Nuclear Power Plant (KKM) is owned and operated by BKW-FMB Energie AG (BKW). BKW is scheduled to submit an updated Level 1 probabilistic safety assessment (PSA) to the Swiss nuclear regulator, HSK, by the end of 2009. SGH is developing seismic fragilities of essential KKM structures, systems, and components (SSCs) for input to the updated seismic PSA. These seismic fragilities consider the KKM-specific seismic hazard updated by the PEGASOS Project. SGH performed probabilistic seismic response analysis, including the effects of soil-structure interaction; seismic walkdown of plant SSCs following EPRI NP-6041-SL guidelines; seismic fragility evaluation of essential SSCs; and seismic fragility evaluation of the Mühleberg Dam, whose seismic-induced failure could cause flooding at KKM.
