Water Vapor Transmission Through Brick Masonry Wall Systems

Abstract: Heat and moisture flow dynamics through masonry walls can vary greatly depending on wall construction and local climate. Recent concerns over mold and moisture damage to building envelopes have created a renewed need for designers to understand the concepts of heat and moisture transmission through building materials in order to design durable and reliable masonry wall systems. This article presents the results of a series of computer simulations charting the performance of three different types of brick masonry walls in three different climate zones.
