Abstract: This paper presents potential problems and suggested methodologies for selection and installation of mooring hooks on existing structures, focusing on installations at marine oil terminals. The paper gives a presentation of current requirements and guidelines, and for selection of mooring hooks for new design related to vessels that will call at the terminal and environmental conditions. These guidelines are then discussed with relation to when mooring hooks will be installed on existing structures, with suggestions for how to solve potential problems that might arise. An example case is presented with the challenges that were encountered during selection and design of the new mooring hooks and what the proposed solutions were.
