Lesson Learned from the Installation of a Flexible Seismic Product Pipeline Mitigation System

This presentation discusses an innovative mitigation approach of providing pipeline flexibility between fixed onshore installations and marine structures subjected to large differential seismic displacements as part of a seismic retrofit project.  The presentation presents various piping configuration concepts and approaches considered by the operator to provide MOTEMS Level 2 seismic compliance of a pipeline system required to accommodate combined lateral and vertical seismic displacements in excess of 40 in. without pipeline damage.  The presentation discusses the MOTEMS compliance process as well as the operator decision-making process that ultimately led to the best mitigation for the terminal.  Project challenges, successes, and lessons learned are also presented.
